Stopover at the Bamboo

Today, I’m taking the Route de la Trace through the rainforest to Fond Marie Reine, just before arriving in Morne-Rouge. I’m looking forward to lunch at one of Martinique’s best Creole restaurants: Le Bambou, an institution since 1986.

A history of conviviality and tradition

   ” Hello and welcome! “

A warm and smiling welcome, as always! I meet up with Line and Léo, whom I’ve known for a long time. The restaurant has changed a lot over the years. It’s true that the little bamboo restaurant (la Kaz) opened by Mamy (la maman) has changed a lot! I remember my parents and I stopping in on our way out of the Jardin de Balata and looking forward tothe coconut accras, chicken colombo andcoconut flan. Today, reed and wood have replaced bamboo; the setting is warm, with lots of plants and flowers, it’s very fresh and airy.

Creole cuisine in the spotlight

– What’s the secret behind Bamboo’s longevity and success?

Above all, what makes Le Bambou so famous is its cuisine. Authentic flavors and traditional Martinican recipes, prepared with passion and respect for local produce. Here, you’ll enjoy balaous fried in cassava flour, fisherman’s tartare with sweet peppers, fricassee of chatrou, sautéed crayfish, lamb mouse with Pele colomboléen, coconut flan… For fish lovers, fish is available here in blaff, court-bouillon and grilled, of course… Simple, hearty, fragrant, spicy just right. Dishes are served with white rice, local vegetables, lentils and gratin. What more could you ask for?

A commitment to tradition and quality

We give priority to short circuits and local producers. Being close to Saint-Pierre and Le Prêcheur, fish supplies are easy to come by. Morne Rouge is agricultural land, with local vegetables and fruit coming from nearby market gardeners, and vanilla and flowers from Plantation Beauvallon.”Like many of our customers, we’re a family, and everyone contributes to the smooth running of Le Bambou,” Line tells me.

Creole identity

Today, Le Bambou asserts its Creole identity and love of its culinary values. By all accounts, customers appreciate the family welcome, the flavorful cuisine and the fast, smiling service.

Thanks to the restaurant’s different spaces, the team welcomes groups and celebrations of life’s events: birthdays, weddings, communions… Sundays with music are always popular, as we eat, dance and have fun!

The Creole garden and the Bamboo orchard

Line shows me her Creole garden, which you can also visit: medicinal plants, aromatic herbs, spices and fruit trees stand side by side in a maze of colors and fragrances. It’s a beautiful tropical park, ideal for a digestive stroll before heading back to Montagne Pelée, Saint-Pierre or Grand’Rivière.

We'd like you to do it for us!
