The World of Spices spice counter

The Monde des Épices boutique is THE largest spice counter in Martinique. As a lover of Creole and world cuisine (thanks to the Bois Lélé guide), I’m always sure to find the spice that will give my dish its personality.

And as my family wants to buy typical Martinique souvenirs, I naturally take them to Le Monde des Épices in Lareinty (opposite Aimé Césaire airport in Lamentin) to stock up on little sachets that will remind them of their stay here…

Martinique's largest selection of spices

When you enter Le Monde des Épices, all your senses are awakened. The house is known for its homemade spice blends, which is my little secret for cooking full of flavor and character.

They’re specialists, so I trust them to use just the right proportions. One blend for fish, another for meat marinades, a world pepper to spice up a dessert, a preparation for my arranged rums or a ” dog sauce “: it’s a mine of inspiration for all budding cooks

In the middle of the store are large wooden counters filled withspices of every color and origin. Vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, Indian wood, peppers… all the spices of Creole cuisine are here, packaged in large and small sachets, carefully selected and packed. In grain, powder or dried form, they’re sure to let you try out West Indian recipes the way they’re meant to be tried!

A selection of local and artisanalproducts

All around, shelves showcase the products of the house, as well as local delicacies and artisanal products. It’s time to treat yourself and bring home original gifts: liqueurs, punches, jams, sweets…

Here’s a tip: you won’t find old or white rum candies anywhere else, and they’re really delicious!

World of Spices teas

I linger over the teas – my guilty pleasure – and infusions. Beautifully displayed under small glass cloches, you can smell the fragrance of the different blends. Alongside classic black teas, green teas and rooibos, I can’t resist the new detox tea with ginger… Le Monde des Épices also distributes the Island Tea range, with flavours from the islands, as well as blends prepared on site with tropical fruits and spices. I just love them!

Baskets and boxes

gifts

My basket is filling up fast. The saleswoman offers us little boxes ready to give or to personalize, and it’s true that it’s practical and makes lovely gifts to take home in your suitcases.

In fact, the house is always in great demand by companies and individuals at Christmas time. But why wait until the end of the year?

The team is always on hand to give good advice, and their explanations are precise and well-documented – you can trust them!

Café la Caribéenne

As you leave, you can smell the roasted coffee w afting from the roasting area. Here we roast a selection of the finest Arabicas, pure originating from Martinique, Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, Tanzania or Ethiopia under the Café la Caribéenne brand. I love the smell…
