In the heart of the Saint-James Distillery in Sainte-Marie in Martinique, discover the "Rum" and "Still and its vintage cellar" museums

It is within the beautiful colonial house dating from 1874 and its former stables, that you will plunge into the history of the sweet reed.
The Rum Museum:
It retraces the history of agricultural rum in Martinique through photographs, old engravings, old bottles, advertising posters and stills, agricultural equipment explaining the cultivation of the cane, the different stages of the elaboration of a rum and its ageing.
The Still Museum and its vintage cellar:

The Still Museum and its vintage cellar:
Behind the colonial house, in the former stables of the dwelling, the "Musée de l'Alambic et sa cave à millésimes" describes the history of the art of distillation according to the periods. The building is magnificent. There are incredible stills, distillation columns, filters, steam regulators and other collectors' items. A rare and exceptional collection of vintage rums dating from 1885 to the present day. Access to the 2 Museums, the shops and the workshops is free.
Visit to the Distillery:
Guided tours of the distillery are at 10am, 11.30am from Monday to Friday during the harvest period (February to June) Price 2023 / €5 and by appointment at any other time of the year.
Children under 12 years old are not allowed. In December, the museum organises the Rum Festival, a traditional and popular event not to be missed!
A distillery without a tasting counter would not be a distillery, with or without a visit, head for the rum bar for a tasting of the best vintages of the Saint-James house.
If you wish to extend your visit, take the Train des Plantations, which will take you on a tour of the sugar cane plantations, or it will drop you off at the La Salle dwelling, a beautiful site that is a must-see. (You can also go by car)
