    A bit of history:
Founded at the beginning of the 20th century by Baron Pierre Daniel de Saumery, the "Denelle" cannery is today one of the oldest industrial sites in operation on the island.

After his death in 1923, its new owner Jacques Vauzanges organised the pineapple industry, grouping together competing canneries and creating a distribution structure to supply the French market. In 1930, the factory produced 1 million boxes of sliced pineapple and covered 10% of French consumption. A brand name had to be found for the products, and it became "Royal", in homage to the fruit's crown.

After the Second World War, the company came under the management of the Huyghues Despointes family. It enjoyed a certain amount of prosperity until the opening of the French market to African countries in the 1960s. Royal's difficulties led to the definitive closure of the pineapple canning business in 1992.

From the 2000s onwards, the site was modernised, new equipment was acquired and a primary processing workshop for tropical fruit was set up. Today, it is a key player in the Martinique fruit industry: nearly 15 growers bring the best of their harvest to the Gros Morne site.
