    A little history:
Saint-James has its origins in Saint-Pierre in 1765, thanks to the Reverend Father Edmond Lefebure, superior of the convent of the Brothers of Charity, and a learned alchemist. In the greatest secrecy, this worthy cleric created a white alcohol of a quality never before attained, a cane brandy then called "Guildive" or "Tafia". In 1882, the Saint-James brand name was registered, as well as the famous square bottle, the first in the world, designed to be stored rationally in the hold of ships, thus reducing breakage during major storms. On May 8, 1902, the greatest natural disaster ever to hit Martinique: the eruption of Mount Pelée wiped out the town of Saint-Pierre and the Saint-James site. The Habitation Saint-James was only partially destroyed.
1974 was a pivotal year as all production was centralised on a single site in Sainte-Marie: a unique opportunity to bring together a vast production site in the immediate vicinity of the cane plantations on a rich, sunny terroir.
