Description

Charles Pottery in Rivière-Pilote: pottery, wheel throwing and modelling In Rivière-Pilote, Charles Pottery welcomes you to its lively, deeply traditional potter’s shop and workshop. Here, the clay is worked on site, with each piece taking shape in the hands of Charles Ménage before being glazed. Visitors come to choose a creation, order a special piece, or even try their hand at wheel throwing or clay modelling.

The workshop offers everything we love to find in a craftsman’s workshop: the tools, the clay, the skilled techniques of the trade and that traditional atmosphere that immediately makes you want to watch the potter at work… or to get your hands dirty yourself.

Try your hand at wheel-throwing in a real potter’s workshop Have you always wanted to sit down at a potter’s wheel and watch a lump of clay take shape beneath your fingers? Charles Pottery offers introductory sessions in wheel-throwing and hand-building by appointment.

Guided by Charles, you’ll discover the feel of the clay and the basic techniques needed to centre and shape it on the wheel. You’ll press, join pieces together and gradually discover all the possibilities the clay has to offer. It’s a hands-on and friendly way to fully immerse yourself in the world of pottery.

Please enquire directly with Charles Pottery regarding session durations, prices and available slots. Contact the workshop to find out about upcoming pottery wheel introductory sessions.

Terracotta, glazing and creations made on site Charles Ménage works primarily with terracotta and glazes his pieces on site. This sequence of steps forms an integral part of life at the workshop: shaping, working the clay, finishing touches and colours gradually bring the objects to life.

Here you can discover a range of creations for the home or for decoration:

  • tableware,
  • light fittings,
  • decorative objects,
  • jars
  • and other pieces crafted in the workshop.

Some pieces retain the natural look of the clay, whilst others are adorned with glazed finishes, adding colour, texture and character to each piece.

Commissioning bespoke pottery Are you looking for a particular shape, size or design? Charles Pottery also carries out bespoke commissions for both private individuals and businesses.

A restaurant, guesthouse or any other establishment can thus liaise directly with the potter regarding a specific requirement. Private individuals can also submit their project for a piece designed for their home or for a special occasion.

Visit the Charles Pottery workshop in Rivière-Pilote More than just a place to buy pottery, it’s a spot where you can experience the craft up close: admire the creations, soak up the atmosphere of a traditional workshop, choose a piece crafted on site, or take a seat at the potter’s wheel yourself for a taster session.

Tip: when booking your introductory session or when you visit the workshop, please mention that you’ve been referred by Martinique Tour.
