Stationed in Sainte Marie in the grounds of the Saint-James rum distillery, the "Train des Plantations" serves the LA SALLE dwelling, a former 17th century sugar refinery, and offers a beautiful ride through the cane fields and banana plantations over a distance of 2.5 km.
A bit of history:
The Plantation Train was set up by the Association "Les Rails de la Canne à Sucre". The Davenport locomotive with a 232 hp Deutz diesel engine was dug out of the Cerise River, as were many of the elements used on the railway site. It has been christened MOÏSE: a fitting name since it was rescued from the water.
