Its breathtaking restoration and its opening to the general public are intended to make the history of sugar and agricultural rum in Martinique better known. In its early days it produced sugar and later pure sugar cane juice used for the distillation of tafia, the ancestor of rum.
Set in the middle of the sugar cane plantations, the Habitation offers eight fully renovated buildings to visit, following the historical path: from the wooden mills used to crush the cane and extract the juice to the guild house, its paddle wheels, its purgery, its distillation stills, its boilers and its cellars, its shop, making it an exceptional site.
A real immersion through time...
This journey ends with a sales and tasting area for the Cuvées La Salle, bottled by hand and sealed with wax. They are on sale in this shop and in that of the Saint-James distillery.
Just inside the entrance to the dwelling, don't forget to visit the small museum dedicated to coffee growing in Martinique.
