The guide will take you to the heart of the mangrove by passing off the Gros îlet (or Mandoline islet). With a lot of humour, good mood and knowledge, he will answer with ease and precision all your questions: flora, fauna, as well as that of the manatee a species disappeared from the island... on and around the Mangrove.
On the way back, you will make a stop on a small islet where you will be served a snack with fresh juice, punch and cakes.
A bit of culture
A diversified fauna and flora.
The bay of Génipa, hosts the largest mangrove of the island. The mangrove is a forest with its feet in the water, a unique natural ecosystem in Martinique, between the maritime and continental domains.
With vegetation such as mangroves, with their roots in stilts, used to the salty environment, mangroves have the function of avoiding coastal erosion, but also of protecting coral species.
This ecosystem plays a very important role for the island because it serves as a buffer zone between the sea and the estuaries of the rivers. It helps the island to preserve its natural state without being disturbed by variations in the sea.
The mangrove fauna is home to a large number of animals. You will observe many species of crabs like touloulous, crabs "it's my fault" or violin crabs, spider crabs and birds like: herons and egrets, molluscs, termite mounds. The mangrove is a real nurse for young fish and a refuge against predators. The mangrove is a protected biodiversity reserve.
