Description

Horse riding and swimming at the Anse Macabou Ranch in Le Vauclin. In south-eastern Martinique, Anse Macabou Ranch invites you to enjoy a horse ride that takes you from land to sea: dry forest, mangroves, unspoilt beaches and exceptional views of the coast and the Atlantic Ocean. The ride follows the Trace des Caps trail, in the heart of the Grand Macabou nature reserve, a 144-hectare area designated as a natural site of faunistic and floristic interest.

Tours take place only in the mornings, from Monday to Sunday, by booking only, with a departure time of 8.15 am. Groups are limited to eight riders to ensure a high standard of supervision. This allows everyone to enjoy the scenery at their own pace.

Luc, a passionate rider and guide, welcomes each participant before the ride. The morning begins with grooming the horses, a special moment to form an initial bond with gentle, well-balanced horses that are used to roaming freely. The routes are suitable for beginners as well as more experienced riders. The pace is adapted to the group’s ability, with sections at a walk, trot or canter depending on the conditions and each rider’s comfort level.

The route takes you through several of Macabou’s iconic landscapes. You can ride to the unspoilt beach of Grand Macabou, lined with coconut palms, discover the Chapel of Our Lady of the Sailors and the conch shell cemetery, then continue the adventure towards Anse Grosse Roche and its famous ‘heart’ depending on the package you’ve chosen.

The site’s natural richness gives each ride a different atmosphere. The dry forest and mangrove swamps are home, in particular, to the local pear tree and the black candlestick tree. Massel Pond serves as a refuge for migratory birds and is situated within a sea turtle nesting area. With its shaded paths, open spaces and unspoilt shoreline, the route reveals an unspoilt side of Martinique, far from the hustle and bustle.

Swimming with the horses is a particularly memorable experience: riding your horse into the ocean on the unspoilt beach at Grand Macabou.

Practical information: The activity is available to those aged 13 and over, with a maximum weight of 85 kg. It is advisable to wear trousers, closed-toe shoes and a cap or bandana. Helmets are provided on site.

Prices for 2026: • 1 hour 30 minute ride: €35. Route to Grand Macabou beach. • 1 hour 45-minute ride including a swim: €40. Access to the beach and swimming with the horses. • 2-hour ride: €45. Route to Anse Grosse Roche and the Chapel of the Virgin of the Sailors.

To get to the ranch, take the entrance to Anse Macabou and continue for about 800 metres. The meeting point is on the right.

Tip: Book directly with Luc, mentioning that you’ve been referred by Martinique Tour, then share your thoughts after this equestrian outing in Le Vauclin.
