MDES

An experience that is both a culinary treat and an educational journey, offering an inside look at a key aspect of Martinique’s culinary heritage, blending tradition and innovation, before rounding off with a tasting full of flavour.
From tropical plantations to production workshops The tour begins in the heart of the orchards, where pineapples, guavas, local apricots and Cythère plums thrive. You’ll explore a vanilla greenhouse as well as a small educational museum dedicated to the vital role of bees in pollination. You’ll then head to the workshops, where you’ll follow the various stages involved in making jams, compotes, juices and nectars. Around 2,000 tonnes of fruit harvested in Martinique are processed here every year. The tour thus illustrates the link between the plantations and the finished products found in bottles or jars.
Tasting and treats at the Royal shop The final stop is at the shop, where you can sample the house specialities. Lovers of tropical flavours will find over 33 jams here, including recipes featuring pineapple, coconut, banana, guava, ginger and even ‘Grand Arôme’ rum. The range also includes over 16 100 per cent fruit juices and nectars in flavours such as mango, passion fruit, Cythère plum and grapefruit, as well as compotes, fruit purées and Dormoy’s Creole sauces. Everything you need to prolong this indulgent moment and, if you fancy, take home a few flavours of Martinique.
Production committed to the environment The site is committed to organic farming and is certified as having High Environmental Value. This commitment is reflected in several practical measures: recycling fruit waste, using renewable energy, environmentally friendly water treatment and the production of seedlings. These initiatives provide an opportunity to explore, throughout the tour, the challenges related to agriculture and the preservation of natural resources.
Royal: over a century of history in Gros-Morne The site’s history dates back to the early 20th century with the Denelle cannery, founded by Baron Pierre Daniel de Saumery. It is one of the oldest industrial sites still in operation in Martinique. Initially dedicated to the production of tinned pineapples, the site has evolved and modernised over the decades, leading to the development of Royal products. Today, the company works with around fifteen fruit growers and continues to focus on fruit harvested in Martinique, thereby maintaining its link with the local fruit industry.
