MDES

A unique banana plantation in Martinique The garden is home to over 60 varieties of banana trees from all over the world. Some have shapes, colours and names that are sometimes quite surprising. As you walk through the garden, you can see, amongst other things: • Kankanbou • Makandja • Figue Rose • Benedetta • Pisang Lilin • Gross Famm • or even the Pis banana, the only variety native to Martinique. Information boards line the path, helping visitors to discover the distinctive features of each variety. You can explore the garden at your own pace.
A rich and colourful tropical garden Lush tropical vegetation grows around the banana trees, adding to the site’s charm. Highlights include: • coffee trees • cocoa trees • breadfruit trees • pineapples • alpinias • hanging heliconias • and magnificent porcelain roses. The walk winds its way through a rolling landscape dotted with shaded gazebos, whilst the River Pierrot adds a pleasant touch of coolness to this tropical stroll.
Explore the banana plantation by buggy For those wishing to extend the experience, the estate also offers a guided buggy tour through the plantation. This excursion takes you along the estate’s farm tracks, allowing you to get a closer look at the banana crops whilst learning about the production techniques used in Martinique. A unique activity that rounds off your visit to the tropical garden.
