Maison La Mauny Distillery – A landmark of Martinique rum
Founded in 1749, the Maison La Mauny Distillery is one of the oldest distilleries in Martinique still in operation. Nestled in a lush valley in Rivière-Pilote, surrounded by sugar cane fields, it embodies over two and a half centuries of rum-making expertise and is an unmissable heritage site in the south of the island.
Known as a ‘smoking’ distillery, it is one of the few in southern Martinique to produce an agricultural rum under the Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC Martinique) designation, which visitors can sample on site.
Available all year round from Monday to Saturday, the tour offers visitors the chance to discover the world of Martinique’s agricultural rum through an immersive experience on the Rivière-Pilote estate. During the sugar harvest, usually from January to July, the experience takes on a special dimension as the distillery is in full swing. Outside this period, the tour remains just as rich in discoveries.
A unique terroir at the heart of AOC rum
The clay soils known as ‘red’ that make up the estate provide exceptional growing conditions for sugarcane. Enriched by the valley’s microclimate, the cane juice harvested from these soils develops complex and distinctive aromas, which form the aromatic signature of Maison La Mauny rums.
