Description

La Roche Perma in Fonds-Saint-Denis: a morning of discovery and wellbeing In Fonds-Saint-Denis, La Roche Perma is offering a morning of discovery, nature and wellbeing led by Jammin Perriet. The programme combines permaculture, tropical plants, the forest, the Canal des Esclaves, the river, swimming, plant-based workshops and a vegetarian lunch. The itinerary brings together the different aspects of the site in a single morning: from the garden to the tropical forest, from the canal to the river, and then from the plants observed to their uses in the treatments and preparations on offer.
A morning spent discovering plants and permaculture La Roche Perma offers visitors the chance to explore a plot of land where over 300 plants and shrubs have been planted. The garden features, amongst other things, banana trees, fruit trees, aromatic and medicinal plants, vanilla, cocoa, atoumo, lemongrass and hibiscus. Jammin Perriet guides participants in identifying the plants and understanding their uses. Questions, discussions and fun activities make this experience accessible to adults and children alike. Permaculture is also part of the morning’s programme, with a presentation on the site, plant combinations and the ecological balance sought in the garden. The trail included in the package After exploring the garden, the morning continues in the tropical forest of Fonds-Saint-Denis. The trail then leads to the Beauregard Canal, more commonly known as the Canal des Esclaves. Participants walk up part of the canal – about fifty metres – with their feet in the water to reach the river. This route brings together several of the site’s characteristic environments in a single experience: a cultivated garden, tropical vegetation, the canal and the river. On arrival, a natural pool offers the chance to enjoy a swim surrounded by nature. Wellbeing workshops centred on plants Wellbeing is an integral part of the morning’s programme at La Roche Perma. By the riverbank, participants make, amongst other things, a plant-based shampoo. The recipe uses hibiscus leaves and flowers, Kanak cabbage and other ingredients from the Creole garden. A white clay face mask also forms part of the activities on offer. These workshops allow participants to move from discovering plants to putting them to practical use, and to gain a better understanding of certain applications of the plants found on site. From the garden to the plate The morning continues with a focus on flavours, featuring yellow banana fritters, followed by a vegetarian lunch served by the river. This part of the programme creates a direct link between the plants, the garden’s produce, their uses and the cuisine. La Roche Perma thus combines plant discovery, wellbeing and food in a single morning, with an itinerary that enables participants to understand plants in their various forms: in the garden, in the preparations and on the plate. Price: €50, which includes: • exploring the permaculture garden; • guidance from Jammin Perriet; • an introduction to the plants and their uses; • a walk through the tropical forest; • travelling up part of the Canal des Esclaves; • the river and a swim; • workshops on plants; • herbal shampoo; • white clay face mask; • yellow banana fritters; • a vegetarian lunch by the river.
