Description
Starting point: at the crossroads, in front of the oratory at the foot of the hill.
Access: D18.
From the village of Le Vauclin, follow the direction of Saint-Esprit for a few kilometres, follow "La Montagne" at the roundabout and then the small road on the right a few hundred metres further on (sign "Calvaire chemin de croix n°2") which leads up to the Ensfelder district.
This route with 14 numbered crosses is a must for pilgrims on Good Friday.
Take the Way of the Cross path to the small chapel (a little below the summit of Notre-Dame-Des-Sept-Douleurs), then reach the summit, continue past the oratory and walk up to the viewpoint. Finally, the reward for all your efforts: a splendid panoramic view over the entire southern half of Martinique, from the islets of Le François on the left to the southern capes (Cap Macré, Cap Ferré...) on the right (2).
Return to the junction, continue to the right along the Way of the Cross towards Ensfelder.
During this ride, observe the exuberant tropical flora: flowers (paradise flower, heliconia, red ginger, porcelain roses...), fruit trees (local apricot trees, avocado trees, guava trees, citrus fruits...), and other gigantic bamboos.
