A charming weekend on the south Caribbean coast

Stay at Hotel ** – Restaurant La Dunette

I’ve decided to spend the weekend in Sainte-Anne, Martinique’s southernmost commune. My schedule is already full: a hike along the Trace des Caps, a visit to the market to discover fresh fish, exotic fruits and Creole spices, a stroll through the lively town of Sainte-Anne and finally lunch at the hotel-restaurant La Dunette**, a local institution that delights locals and visiting travelers alike.

Stroll through Sainte-Anne and

Creole lunch at La Dunette restaurant

I start my day at the Sainte-Anne market on the seafront. I love this festival of flavors and colors, a real invitation to discover the island’s culinary treasures. The stalls also sell souvenirs, spices and even the catch of the day.

After strolling through the lively streets of the village, looking for small gifts and local crafts, it’s time to head to La Dunette restaurant for lunch!

Settled on the deck facing the azure blue sea with the Diamant rock in my sights. I let myself be tempted by a king mackerel tartare with coconut milk, followed by a snapper blaff, simple and good West Indian dishes.

A room overlooking the Caribbean Sea

In the afternoon, I take possession of my room with its terrace overlooking the sea, decorated in the bright colors of the West Indies. The view is breathtaking over the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean Sea, offering a 180° panorama from the Bay of Le Marin to the Diamond Rock. I spend an hour on the Salines beach, where the water is perfect, calm and delicious at 28 degrees! For me, Sainte-Anne is always a vacation…

Sunset over the bay of Le Marin

Around 5 p.m. (it’s almost cocktail time!), I return to the hotel and head for the lounge bar on La Dunette. Tourists and locals alike love to gather here to admire the fabulous sunset over the sea, while sipping a cocktail in a relaxed, convivial atmosphere.

In the evening, I enjoy the restaurant party with a zouk band whose lively rhythms get the audience dancing and singing along. (See all the evenings in thediary!)

Despite the temptation to prolong the party, I decide to go to bed early so as to be in top shape for tomorrow morning’s Trace des Caps hike!

After a good night’s sleep in my comfortable room at La Dunette, I head downstairs for the buffet breakfast, before greeting Gérald, the owner, and his daughter Elisa, who run this family-run establishment created over 70 years ago, promising to return very soon…

To remember :

I’m delighted with my little getaway to Sainte-Anne. A room with a breathtaking view of the Caribbean Sea, a Creole breakfast right on the water, a family welcome: thank you La Dunette!
