First, let me set the scene: Le Kano stands on the beach of Anse Mitan. The setting is magnificent, with a view of the turquoise blue Caribbean Sea and the bay of Fort-de-France, one of the most beautiful bays in the world. The design of the establishment harmoniously combines modernity and tropical ambience, with cosy lounges, a large cocktail bar, a dining room, an open terrace and… the beach! The combination of wood, works by local artists and tropical plants creates a warm, Zen atmosphere.
An exceptional setting
Chef's cuisine
from land and sea to plateLe Kano’s menu is Creole in style, featuring local produce from Martinique.
Between the chef’s suggestions, gourmet tapas, modernized Creole dishes, revisited burgers and sweet treats, each dish immerses you in Caribbean flavors… It’s hard to choose!
As Kano is also a lounge bar, the bartender’s cocktail menu is extensive. So we’ll start with a Planteur accompanied by a few tapas to share: cod or vegetable accras – fried yellow bananas – fried kassav’ with soy or beef colombo – tempura-style shrimp marinades – wild Argentine shrimp souskaÿ withold rumArgentina wild shrimp with aged rum – duo of smoked marlin tartare, coconut milk and thyme oil – coconut breaded chicken aiguillettes, mango colombo sauce… Tapas can also be served as a main course. All homemade, delicious and fragrant.
For the main course, I choose the pork roussi with white rum and my friends the lambis confit with coconut milk accompanied by rice and a cristophine gratin. Other dishes on the menu include yellowfin tuna steak with guasacaca and kréol sauces – lamb shoulder confit with tamarind sauce – and grilled Iberian pork secreto, mushroom forest sauce, yam purée with coconut milk… An original menu full of flavours!
As my taste buds are already quite satiated, I’m going to skip dessert (but not old rum!), while my friends enjoy the crème brûlée with old rum and the meringue maracuja cream tart…
Quite frankly , everyone enjoyed themselves!
An exceptional rum cellar
For rum connoisseurs, the Kano boasts a superb rum cellar with a fine representation of the different brands of Martinique’s agricultural rums – from white rums to the most prestigious cuvées of old rum.
Anse Mitan beach
After lunch, there’s nothing like lounging on the calm waters of Anse Mitan beach. It’s an ideal place to spend the afternoon chilling out, swimming and taking part in water sports: towed buoys, parasailing, jet-skiing… Chatting, laughing, reminiscing and enjoying the purely Caribbean setting. L’ Anse Mitan is a family beach where you can enjoy a leisurely swim. Perfect for a lazy afternoon…
Afterwork and Happy Hour
on the beach from 5 to 6 p.m.This is the special moment I love: the golden hour of the Kano, magical… Between cocktails and the sunset over the sea, every moment is imbued with beauty and conviviality. The cocktail menu is top-notch: there are all the classics, but above all there are the Kano’s signature cocktails. The bartenders are highly creative, mastering the art of cocktails and mixology at the tip of their shaker and taking us on a journey, with or without alcohol.
The playlist is a mix of different genres of music, all of them trendy. Caribbean beach atmosphere, chill music, cocktails – what more could you ask for? We love it!
The Kano is truly “the place to be”, combining all the pleasures of life in the West Indies: enchanting surroundings, homemade Creole specialities, crazy cocktails, rum cellar, quality wine cellar, live evenings and events. One of Martinique’s musts!
It was a beautiful day…
