Visit the garden of the Musée de la Banane in Sainte-Marie
Located in Sainte-Marie, within the Habitation Limbé, a former 18ᵉ century sugar mill, the Musée de la Banane invites you to immerse yourself in tropical nature and historical heritage.
A 2-hectare banana plantation and tropical garden to explore
A walk through the garden at the Musée de la Banane is an experience in itself. You'll discover more than 64 varieties of banana trees with surprising names: Kankanbou, Makandja, Gross Famm, Figue Rose, Benedetta, Pisang Lilin... as well as many tropical species: coffee trees, cocoa trees, breadfruit trees, alpinias, porcelain roses, heliconias pendula and pineapples. -
Tours are free or guided for groups, with explanatory panels along the way.
The walk is enhanced by shady kiosks and the River Pierrot, ideal for a contemplative break.
The museum
The museum's permanent exhibition tells the fascinating story of the banana, from its arrival in Martinique in 1516 to its global economic importance. Find out how they are used and grown, and finish off with a tasting session!
