Manman Dlo

Historic site and monument, Statue in Saint-Pierre
  • Created by Laurent Valère, the same artist as the Cap 110 Memorial in Le Diamant, the underwater work Manman Dlo is a sculpture located at the bottom of the sea, off Saint-Pierre.

  • Created in 2004, Manman Dlo is a monumental sculpture (more than 20 tons) representing a mermaid (a "manman dlo", a Creole version of the mermaid that according to myths capsizes ships). It is a tribute to the sea and an invitation to its protection.

The artwork Manman Dlo consists of a head that looks at you from the bottom, a little further away you can see a caudal fin, (placed a few meters away) - as if the " mermaid " was buried in the sand, watching the boats pass over the surface....

Very easy to access, opposite the entrance to the village of Saint-Pierre, all you need is a mask to admire it from the surface and swim towards the yellow buoy, submerged only 30 metres from the shore.
Good freedivers or scuba divers will be able to access the small cave inside the sculpture. Be careful, there's a guard... Smile at him!
