Les Mains d'Argiles

Laura is a well-known figure in the circle of Martinique potters. After working for many years with the potters of the Village de la Poterie, she opened her own workshop in Saint-Esprit, where she was born: "Les mains d'argiles" ("Clay hands").

To produce her work, Laura chooses and prepares her clay according to the piece to be made, its shaping and firing. She uses various techniques that she has acquired since the age of 15: turning, modelling, casting in moulds, stamping. As she likes to say, "being a potter has always been an obvious choice, it's part of my DNA".

After working the clay, Laura gives it its final shape before drying it. Then it is time for firing and glazing (or the other way round depending on the case). Some pieces are hand painted: in relief, with a brush, or with a cruet.

She makes unique and personalised pieces.

Laura welcomes you in her workshop every day. You will find among her flagship products: the traditional Martinique jug, the "Koko neg" (to cook a blaff or a court-bouillon), tableware, huge jars for your home or garden, decorative objects... Nature and scenes from the past are very present in her decorations. She also makes trendy objects...

In any case, when you come to Laura's house, you always fall in love with a piece... or two!

Initiation: Because she likes to transmit her passion, Laura proposes initiations to pottery for adults, children, P.M.R (People with reduced mobility), groups (by appointment).
