Immaculée-Conception Church

In 1705, the creation of a parish was authorized, Father Placide de Saint-Lô exercised his priesthood in the chapel built around 1690. The construction of the church and repairs were financed by the population, but the building, which had become unhealthy, was banned in 1785. Until 1818, the parish had no church.

The latter was rebuilt thanks to a subsidy paid by the government, which reimbursed itself by taxing the dwellings in proportion to the number of slaves owned. The new building consisted of a Romanesque nave, surmounted by a framework that survived until the 1950s.
In 1863, the church was enriched with a choir and two side chapels and housed three marble altars, in ogival style. The walls all remain naked. They were panelled between 1877 and 1880, thanks to donations from parishioners. In addition, two new windows were drilled, a forechoir was integrated and the vault was decorated with a stained glass window representing the Last Supper. The windows and doors were also fitted with stained glass.

At the end of the 1950s, the church gave way to a niche housing the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception. A new bell tower was built and the interior was again panelled and painted in the colours of the Virgin, in white and blue. At the back, a tribune was reserved for the men who attended Mass. In 1984, important works were carried out by the town council: the roof was completely rebuilt and completed with a new bell tower reminiscent of that of the 1930s.
