Islet in Le François
  • Formerly called " Calonne Islet " after a former mayor (1944-1956) Isidore Calonne. It was renamed " Long Islet " because of its elongated shape.

  • It is 5 km from the marina but 800m from the coast and reaches an altitude of 20 metres. It is equipped with a cove of fine sand. The islet is occupied by a relict mangrove. The vegetation cover is made up of grassy herbaceous plants. The animal fauna is abundant: sheep, anolis, small shrimps, crabs, zagayas, touloulous krab tè, crickets, woodlice, bedbugs are very frequent.     This islet has about ten houses (more or less maintained). It is possible to visit it. Several private companies offer visits to the François islets.

    Its sandy cove at the southeast tip is frequented daily by boaters and tourists.
    It welcomes about a hundred people a day! It is one of the "degraded" islets because of its fragile ecosystem.
