It is an islet protected like the Frégate islets by a biotope protection order since 2003, in order to safeguard the biological balance of the environments and the conservation of the spaces necessary for the feeding, reproduction and survival of plant and animal species. Since 28 July 2007, the islet has been registered as a "registered site" by ministerial decree.

The islet is home to herbaceous and shrubby vegetation such as the Murier pays (Maclura tinctoria), an extremely rare species of Martinique's flora.

It is home to a bird species: the square-tailed turtle-dove (Zenaida aurita) - the crested hummingbird (Orthorhyncus cristatus), the yellow warbler (Dendroica petechia), the piping elenium (Elaenia martinica), the robin sporophile (Loxigilla noctis). Its birds find favourable conditions for rest, feeding and breeding.
Some houses are located there (second homes). It is possible to visit it as part of trips to the islets of the François.
