La Grotte islet has been protected by a biotope protection order since 2002 and is listed by the ministerial order of 28 July 2007.
It is elongated and conical shaped to the south, reaching a height of 38 metres above the sea.
We can notice the presence of the Murier pays (Maclura tinctoria), a plant species rare in Martinique. It is home to a very rich birdlife composed of yellow-bellied, Madeira hummingbird, grey tyrant, blackbird with glasses, vireo with moustache, square-tailed turtledove.
