You'll learn all about Clément rum and the family of the same name, who lived on the estate for a hundred years. "In 1887, Homère Clément acquired the Acajou estate. In 1917, Homère Clément built his distillery on the ruins of the old sugar refinery. Charles Clément, Homère Clément's son, devoted himself to developing the distillery, which he inherited with his sisters in 1923. They modernised the facilities, working to improve the quality of their agricultural rums.
In 1986, GBH acquired the estate. Major changes have taken place since then:
- 2005 Distillation stopped and was transferred to the Simon plant - The old distillery became a centre for the interpretation of rum, with all the stages of processing from the cane to the ageing cellars. All the machinery has been preserved and restored to its former glory.
- At L'Atelier des Sens, you can immerse yourself in the sensory and olfactory world of Clément rums, tasting and awakening all your senses.
- The Main House, listed as a "historic monument" in 1996, has been restored and offers an opportunity to enter into the art of tropical living and discover the traditional architecture and furnishings of a large Creole house.
- On this 16-hectare estate, the garden, awarded the "Remarkable Garden" label in 2015, has been completely transformed into an open-air art gallery - its tropical vegetation and carefully scattered sculptures create a unique dialogue between nature and artists.
- A contemporary art centre and gallery: Over 200 artists have already been welcomed to this venue, which is open to the public and schools free of charge. The foundation promotes local and Caribbean artists in support of the arts and cultural heritage in Martinique.
