Hiking to the waterfall: an adventure in the heart of Martinique's nature
The waterfall trail, around 4 km long, is an accessible hike if you have a good balance, although it is not officially authorised despite its regular use.
This trail, nestled in the lush Martinique countryside, offers a magnificent setting, but requires extra vigilance, especially in bad weather, as the water can rise extremely quickly. -
The journey begins with a thrilling passage through a bat tunnel some 80 metres long. You walk along a metal footbridge in the semi-darkness, with the occasional active bat above your head. At the exit, you walk along a sumptuous river lined with tropical vegetation. In 20 minutes, you reach your first waterfall and a number of pools where you can take a dip.

To reach the large waterfall, a tricky section awaits you: a steep climb equipped with ropes, which should be approached with caution.
After a few minutes' walk, you'll discover the highlight of the show: a large waterfall with a refreshing pool. This site is perfect for a picnic or a break from the heat. Despite the beauty of the place, remain cautious, as with any hike in Martinique, and check the weather forecast before setting off.
Practical advice:
- Bring suitable footwear and a torch for the tunnel.
- Avoid the route in wet weather because of flash floods.
- Respect the environment by not leaving any rubbish behind.
