Distillerie HBS Habitation Beauséjour

If you're a fan of Martinique rum, a visit to the H.B.S distillery at Habitation Beauséjour in Grande-Rivière is a must. It is recognised as Martinique's smallest distillery, and stands out for its unique still distillation method, as opposed to the traditional column method used on the island. Reopened to visitors in 2020, it produces white rums and 3-year aged rums.

As a small distillery, H.B.S offers an intimate experience, allowing you to get up close and personal with the day-to-day production activities.

During your visit, you'll be immersed in the world of the distillery, which operates all year round. Here, everything is done by hand, from cutting the cane to bottling. You'll be welcomed by the distiller, who will show you the production process and share with you the history of the distillery. The tour also includes a tasting of their rums.

A little history :

Habitation Beauséjour has a rich history dating back to 1671, when Antoine Chambert became the first owner. In 1694, it became a sugar mill, producing sugar until 1900. Its current name, "Habitation Beauséjour", was given in 1856. Faced with an economic crisis, the dwelling diversified its activities by turning to banana cultivation.

In 2018, the de Fossarieu family, who had owned the distillery for several generations, decided to revive its past and return to rum production under the H.B.S. brand. The distillery stands out for its choice of alembic distillation, a method less common in Martinique where column distillation is the norm.
This return to its origins marks a new era for Habitation Beauséjour, which now combines tradition and modernity in the production of its unique rums.
