Since 1970, the museum has preserved the oldest and most diverse archaeological heritage of the Lesser Antilles. The museum has a total surface area of 445 m2, 380 of which is reserved for exhibitions. Through its six thematic rooms, the museum exhibits in images, sounds, words and precious objects, all the wealth of Amerindian civilizations.

It invites visitors to a global vision of the Amerindian Man, calling together several disciplines: archaeology, anthropology, history, botany, linguistics and drawing on an enriched and diversified collection.
Most of the collections consist of nearly 3200 pieces. These consist of an archaeological collection, reputed to be the richest and most diversified in the Lesser Antilles, ethnographic, iconographic and historical collections.

In 2007, the Collectivity acquired part of the "Arson-Cadilhac Collection" on behalf of the museum, which bears witness to the daily life of the Arawak-speaking Amerindian peoples of Colombia and Venezuela in the mid-twentieth century.
