Description
Starting point: RN3, Trace Road
Access: From the centre, take the Trace Road towards Morne-Rouge, starting 1.5 km after the tunnel.
This hike takes you to the heart of the rainforest, a real immersion in a lush vegetation composed of tall trees, vines, epiphytic plants and tree ferns.
Begin on the trail that starts near the interpretation panel and overhangs the road. After 5 minutes of walking, you will arrive at the kiosk and there, you will be able to enjoy on the left a panorama on the Pelee Mount and the town of Morne-Rouge and on the right a superb view on the Lorrain River valley.
The trail continues in a ridge line and then follows a long descent into the rainforest to the Lorrain River, reached after crossing two small rivers. Here, you are at the halfway point after a 1h30 walk (1).
After crossing the river, you can turn left to go to the "Trou d'eau", and enjoy this fresh water pool before going up the other side. Now you're off for an hour of climbing. Indeed, the path climbs slowly and takes you back to the edge of the RD1.
