  • La Savane des Esclaves, an open-air museum covering more than 3 hectares in Les Trois-Îlets. A must-see visit to discover or rediscover, it pays tribute to 400 years of Martinique's history and traditions, built around Villages of Memory.

  • Along the way, your self-guided tour will be enhanced by audio QR codes, videos, over 40 bilingual panels and a fresco detailing the history of slavery in the West Indies (produced with the help of historians), revolts, marooning, free people of colour and abolitionists.
    This is a veritable open-air museum, with more than 25 traditional huts retracing 400 years of history. You will find

    - A "Memories of our Ancestors" museum devoted to slavery, illustrating various scenes from the lives of...

    This is a veritable open-air museum, with more than 25 traditional huts retracing 400 years of history. You will find

    - A "Memories of our Ancestors" museum devoted to slavery, illustrating various scenes from the lives of slaves: the Code Noir, marronnage, liberation...

    - Rue Case-Nègres and its huts, where you can imagine the living conditions and punishments of the slaves. We'll show you how the huts were built, with wooden palisades made of ti balsam, roofs made of latania leaves and reeds, and dirt floors, as well as the way of life of yesteryear...
    - A Creole garden, a medicinal garden with identification of all the plants.
    - The Place de l'Esclave Romain.
    - A Kalinago village dedicated to the Amerindian way of life.
    There are several tasting areas along the way:
    - La Manioquerie
    - La Maison de transformation de légumes pays: You'll see cassava made and sold from manioc starch: plain, filled with codfish, coconut, chocolate, jam, cinnamon or lemon. The Snack : - You can taste and discover banana flour pancakes, accras, sweet potato chips, yam chips... 100% Creole with vegetables from the garden.
    - La case à Glaces : - Artisanal ice creams are made on site with fruit and medicinal plants from the garden (to enjoy on site, to take away or to order).

    -The Juice Bar : - You'll overlook the garden, drinking fruit juices and infusions from the garden.
    Entertainment: - Several times a week, you can take part in Kako (cocoa) stick-making workshops (see "Agenda" section).

    Events are organised throughout the year: traditional dance, drumming, theatre, craft market, etc. (see "Events" section).
