A 5-hectare botanical park nestled along the Lézarde River.
Habitation Saint-Etienne HSE combines all the qualities, offering visitors a unique architectural ensemble dating back to the early 19th century. Water is ever-present: waterfalls, streams, and ponds.
Organized around several thematic areas, this remarkable garden boasts a collection of over 180 plant species from around the world: Caribbean royal palms, heliconias, a bamboo grove, an orchard, horticultural trees, red palms, banyan trees, annatto trees, calabash trees, alpinia, coconut trees, a zamana, lemon trees, queen palms; and a significant bird population, including the Kaïali, an endemic green heron.
A collection of monumental contemporary sculptures on the theme of colonization, created by two committed artists, Philippe Perrin and Victor Anicet, blends seamlessly into this lush vegetal backdrop. Listed in 2006 on the Supplementary Inventory of Historical Monuments, Habitation Saint-Etienne has earned yet another distinction.
