Diving club in Grande Anse

From the moment you arrive at the club, you’ll feel welcome. The atmosphere is friendly, the instructors take the time to look after each diver and are always available.

Set in the middle of the pedestrian street by the beach, the beautiful wooden terrace and blue-and-white facade make it easy to spot. Alpha Plongée is a club where you immediately feel at ease.

The center, which is on a human scale, is very well organized: a reception area, a large deck around the house for easy circulation, practical benches for fitting out and chatting with other divers, an equipment room, two rinsing and disinfection basins, changing rooms and showers. In the morning, you’ll be offered coffee and a snack, and on returning from each dive, a juice or planteur. The whole team cultivates good humor, exchange and sharing.

Four outings are organized each day: the first at 7 a.m., ideal for continuing your day afterwards, then at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.Every Friday evening, a night dive is offered, revealing a totally different underwater world.

Baptism, a unique approach!

Alpha Plongée’s approach to baptisms is unique in Martinique. They’re the only ones to do it this way. We equip you one by one. Once you’ve donned your wetsuit, handed out your fins and put your tanks on your back, you cross the street and enter the waist-deep water.

We then explain how the regulator works, how to empty the mask, how to balance the ears during the descent and the signs of underwater communication (“OK”, “problem”, “up”, “down”, etc.).OK”, “problem”, “up”, “down”, etc.).). With the mask over your head, you put your face in the water. Your feet are still touching the sand, which is very reassuring. Once you feel confident, with the regulator in your mouth, you slowly get used to breathing. Usually, this learning process takes place in the sea, but here, as you’re on foot, you gain in confidence, and any apprehensions you may have at the moment quickly disappear.

Then it’s off to the boat. A few strokes of the flippers and you’re aboard. The boat is very well designed. Sitting on the benches, your bottles are placed in slots, and here again, it’s very practical. There’s no strain on your back from the weight of the bottle, and you can unzip your vest with ease.

Diving at Abricot Creek

After a few minutes’ sailing, we arrive at the Abricot Creek dive site. The sea is very calm and visibility optimal, ideal conditions for a first exploration. For our first dives, we’re alone with the instructor… just for us.

Once you’re in the water and feel confident, the instructor (today it’s Fabrice the boss who’s looking after me) takes your hand and you descend gently. No problem with your ears, no pressure, the descent is really safe. Attentive, the instructor asks you regularly if everything’s okay.

The site is fantastic. The sun’s rays pierce the water, and the walls reveal all their colors. The underwater life is vibrant and incredibly rich. The diversity of coral fish is breathtaking. Schools of tiny fish glisten with the light reflecting off their scales. You’ll come across parrotfish, angelfish, damselfish, lionfish, angelfish and surgeonfish.

There are all kinds of hard corals, such as brain corals and gilledcorals, as well as soft corals that ripple with the currents. Sea sponges in a variety of shapes line the rocks and reefs. There are even tiny shrimps. Incredibly colorful and strikingly beautiful, it’s like being in a garden. In this marine biocenosis, we experience a true moment of peace and serenity.

20 underwater exploration sites

Diving with Alpha Plongée means exploring an underwater geographical area stretching from Rocher du Diamant to Anse Dufour. A total of 20 sites to discover… What makes them different, if you’re a regular diver at the center, beginner or experienced, is that you’ll never dive in the same place.A detailed map at the club entrance shows you where these spots are.

  • The Grande Anse sites are renowned for their great diversity of marine biodiversity, with the advantage of being multi-depth, allowing dives suitable for levels 1, 2 and 3.
  • Les Jorasses: a spectacular site with a variety of reliefs and abundant marine life.
  • Pointe Burgos: ideal for experienced divers, with depths and currents.
  • La Sirène: renowned for its wealth of fish, alternating between sandy and rocky areas.

Remarkable sites

  • Le Trou du Souffleur de Salomon: a fascinating place where you can spot stingrays and eagle rays.
  • Diamond Rock, famous for the fault that runs through it.
  • L’Épave du Nahoon: exceptional flora and fauna have colonized this three-masted ship, which has been voluntarily sunk to a depth of 35 meters since 1993.

French diving school

Alpha Plongée is also a diving school and training center. You have the possibility of passing your levels (French and international diplomas). During your first dive, you’ll have learned to breathe and observe, then to go further. You can choose between French training (level 1) or international training(Open Water PADI). Once you’ve passed your first level, there are many other courses available to help you progress and become increasingly autonomous underwater.

  • Level 1(Open Water Diver ): In small groups of no more than 4, you’ll have theory modules on safety, equipment management and 5 to 6 dives between 10 and 20 meters to learn how to manage your balance and positioning while diving.
  • Level 2(Advanced Open Water Diver ): This represents an intermediate step towards advanced certification, enabling divers to develop their skills and experience to explore deeper dive sites up to 20 m on their own and 40 m on supervised dives.
  • Level 3(Dive Leader / Advanced Diver) Divers are trained to handle more complex diving conditions, such as strong currents, reduced visibility, deep diving to 60m on their own, night diving and more technical environments.

My experience with Alpha Plongée Martinique was a great one. The team is top-notch, friendly and professional. I came away with my head full of images and can’t wait to pass my levels and explore other spots.

Thanks to Fabrice and the whole team

We' d like you to do it for us!
