Ysnay, Crafts and Well-beingMeeting with Valérie

Immersion in the olfactory world of Ysnay

On the heights of Le Lamentin, in the heart of a magnificent, fragrant tropical garden, nestles Villa Baobab Rouge. As soon as I arrive, I sense the calm and serenity of the place. It’s here that I meet Valérie, the owner. I’ve long been a fan of her art candles and perfumes ! I like to display them all over the house and offer these pretty handcrafted objects to my friends…

Creator and owner of Ysnay

Designer of decorative candles

and Caribbean scents

I enter the large, open-plan salon that serves as the showcase for his showroom. This tropical space is bathed in soothing olfactory sweetness. Exotic fragrances fill the air, creating a serene, Zen atmosphere. Sweet aromas of vetiver and patchouli mingle subtly with the more delicate scents of flowers. It’s a corner of paradise where every breath evokes a tropical escape and deep relaxation. This is where Valérie exhibits and sells her creations. While admiring the latest refined ceramics containing her scented candles, I ask my hostess to tell me about her career…

Craftsmanship, well-being and art of living

“After 15 years in the tourism industry, I simply wanted to change my life. During those years, I met a lot of travelers from all over the world. I felt that what was missing was a beautiful, high-end craft paying tribute to our Martinique, high-quality souvenirs, refined gifts… The idea of candles scented with local fragrances came to me and I launched my business nearly 10 years ago. I opened my workshop and home to the public and created an online sales site. Little by little, I developed my concept and I’m still going strong: I love sharing with my customers a unique experience that combines craftsmanship, well-being, the art of living and nature…”.

What’s so appealing about Ysnay candles (a name that symbolized the sun or light among the Taïnos, an indigenous Caribbean people) is the elegant marriage of wax, container and high-end packaging. Fragrances inspired by Caribbean nature are enhanced by the original works and ceramics ofMartinican artisans. Cocoa, cinnamon, vanilla, frangipani, Indian wood, atoumo…

In all, some twenty poetically-named scented waxes(Balade à Balata, Échappée sous les pitons, Fleurs sous le vent, Escapade à Aruba…) created by a Grasse perfumer using essences from the Caribbean are cast in works of art in the shape of cocoa pods, breadfruit, cinnamon apples, calabashes… are cast in works of art in the shape of a cocoa pod, breadfruit, cinnamon apple, calabash… The crackling sound of the wooden wick enhances the feeling of well-being. Both the vegetable wax and the ingredients are 100% natural.

Eco-gesture

A little feature I particularly like: when the candle is finished, you can have it refilled or keep it as a decoration!

Ysnay collections

Ysnay’s olfactory universe also includes massage candles, mikados, home fragrances, solid perfumes, scented wax pucks, car diffusers and more.

From the bottle to the packaging, everything is beautiful, thoughtful and refined. And it smells so good!

Villa Baobab Rouge

Workshops, wellness breaks and guest rooms

In her luxuriant world, Valérie regularly offers creative workshops. It’s a great place to meet up, exchange ideas and discover handcrafted creations, different fragrances and the virtues of plants… for a day or half-day.

Olfactory journey

“When I opened my home to the public – named Villa Baobab Rouge after the huge baobab tree in the garden – I wanted there to be continuity between the fragrances of my candles and the natural scents of nature’s essences, so I created an olfactory trail. It s true that strolling along the Japanese steps amidst trees, flowers and spices, you immediately get to the heart of the matter! Lots of green, lots of plants, a real tropical oasis, fragrant and soothing

For a stay

“To extend my customers’ experience, I’ve opened guest rooms dedicated to women who want to spend a few nights in the heart of this peaceful haven. Each room has been designed to bring calm, peace, rejuvenation and serenity. Energy plants, essential oil diffusers, sleep masks, Spa or outdoor shower…. Everything has been designed to promote happiness and let go. I want their time here to be synonymous with freedom, disconnection and personal space, so that they can recharge their batteries with a serene mind.”

For a gourmet break

“I offer light, healthy, olfactory gourmet breaks that can be enjoyed in the house, on the terrace or in the garden. I’ve set up tables here and there, and the rule is that you sit down wherever you feel comfortable to enjoy savoury tarts, soups and salads, always based on local produce from the Creole garden“.

For a massage

“If you fancy an express massage during your lunch break, why not? It lasts between 15 and 20 minutes (neck, shoulders, back in a seated position) in the heart of nature. Trained in professional techniques, I practice traditional West Indian massage, using local plants. ” A wellness area in a green setting welcomes massages and herbal baths.

And even for business!

Villa Baobab Rouge is open for meetings, seminars, product presentations, private or business events…..

Thank you Valérie for introducing me to your world! Everything is so beautiful, it’s as if every detail has been thought through. The calm and peace that reign here, the lush garden, the decor, the fragrances throughout the morning…

It was all very pleasant. Of course, I’m leaving with a pretty Fruit à Pain candle, a “Échappée sous les Pitons” home fragrance and scented little hearts to give as gifts!

I believe in the power of scents and the positive energy of plants; the results are visible in our Space!
