The entrance to the plantation is marked by a huge blue wooden chai. Sylvestre, our guide for the day, welcomes our little group on the terrace just beside the store. Introductions made, we take the path leading to the old distillery.
Self-guided or guided tour
I discover the magnificent artistic fresco on the ground, with its molecular shapes, which mark out the path in a cameo of blue, green, yellow, ochre… It’s so beautiful!
We pass the artisans’ stores, housed in huge wooden tuns that were once used to age 40 to 50 thousand liters of rum.
We’ll be back later to buy a few local souvenirs.
I was lucky enough to visit the distillery when it was still in operation, until 2004. That year, the distillation column was transferred to the Maison la Mauny distillery in Rivière Pilote, which has since distilled Trois Rivières rums in compliance with the specifications and preserved the full identity of its rums. Today, the site is entirely devoted to spirit tourism: preserving its history, visiting the magnificent estate, tasting and selling rums with a strong personality.
Rum in 3D sound and light
We then enter an old wine storehouse where three large casks and barrels are laid out. And when the doors close, it’s a sight you won’t soon forget!
An immersive 3D sound and light show takes you through every stage of rum production.
It’s a great experience, bravo!
Tasting and store
Sylvestre invites us to visit the boutique, where we can discover and taste the brand’s white rums, amber rums, aged rums and special cuvées. A moment much appreciated by all visitors! The boutique is open to all, with no obligation to visit.
For my part, I chose a white rum: Cuvée de l’Océan in its turquoise-blue bottle. Identifiable by its slightly iodized notes, it comes from the juice of canes from a parcel of land on the Atlantic side of Anse Trabaud (commune of Sainte-Anne): I really like it. As for old rum, I’m curious about and very attracted to Rhum vieux de l’Océan. Its particularity: it’s reduced to filtered seawater. I like its clean, invigorating taste. The navy-blue bottle is superb.
At the boutique, I buy a bottle of each and fall for the cuvée Saint-Pierre, an aged rum. I also take the opportunity to pick up some ti-punch glasses and a few bois lélé.
One last look, one last photo of the park with its cane fields as far as the eye can see, and I leave delighted with this visit, with a special mention for the 3D sound and light animation and this fresco like a long, colorful mosaic!
We' d like you to do it for us!
