Grand'Rivière only had a small wooden chapel built by the Jesuits in 1660 for any place of worship.
It was served very irregularly. In 1694 Father Labat came to celebrate Mass with the parish priest of Basse-Pointe. Grand'Rivière was attached to the parish of Macouba by Father Mane in 1743.
Since its construction, the chapel had been maintained by the settlers of the neighbourhood. The first bishop, Monsignor Le Herpeur, upon his appointment (1850) obtained an increase in the number of members of the clergy, which allowed him to erect several chapels in the diocese as parishes. Grand'Rivière is one of them and the small, enlarged church was regularly served.
After becoming dilapidated, it was completely restored in 2008.
