Le Galion distillery and sugar refinery

The visit of the Galion factory takes place during the sugar campaign, i.e. when the factory is running.
Guided by a hostess, the tour offers visitors a unique experience between the history of sugar cane, sugar house and central steam plant. The Galion is in the tradition of sugar units, with modern machines operating in a traditional and secular process.
The visit ends with a tasting of Galion products.

A bit of history:
Built from 1861 to 1865, it takes its name from its proximity to the Galion River, which served as a drinking water supply for Spanish galleons. Since 1984, the Galion sugar factory has been managed by a mixed economy company, the Société Anonyme d'Economie Mixte de Production Sucrière et Rhumière de la Martinique. Galion produces sugar and two types of rum

Exclusive Galion product, this rum is obtained from a natural fermentation lasting 8 to 10 days. It is mainly used for its aromatic power, in the food industry (candied fruit, ice cream), in perfumery and in the wine and spirits industry.
