  • A true open-air museum, La Savane des Esclaves is a must-see site that pays tribute to the history and traditions of Martinique in the heart of a 3 hectare landscaped park.

  • Several tasting areas are open as well as a small store:
    - At Kalinago Village, the garden's fresh fruit juice bar.
    - At the Manioquerie, you will be able to watch the making and selling of cassavas* and kako (cocoa) sticks. You will also be able to taste and order the homemade ice creams made on site with the fruits and medicinal plants of the garden.
    *Cassaves are patties prepared with manioc starch, they can be plain or filled with codfish chiquetaille... They are also available in small...

They are also available in small sizes as small travel cookies, plain, with coconut, chocolate, cinnamon, lemon... with turmeric salt and pepper. You may become addicted to them because they are so good!
    Numerous workshops are organized to make kako sticks (see "Agenda" section).
    - In the store, you will find medicinal plants and soaps, books on the history of Martinique, Gilbert Larose's books (2 comics, 1 coloring book, 1 illustrated book), spices, vanilla...

    The comic book "Ti Gilbé presents the History of Martinique"
    The comic is presented as the story of the history of Martinique by Ti Gilbè (Gilbert Larose) in a simple and accessible way to all, summarizing some parts and emphasizing on slavery, the way of life of slaves, the marronnage, punishments, abolition. The drawings are made by Jojo Kourtex whose companion was a guide at La Savane des Esclaves. The Arawaks, the Caribbean Indians, the French colonists, the Breton indentured servicemen, the Africans, the Indians: all the history of these peoples who came to live in Martinique, voluntarily or forced, is illustrated in the comic.
    The comic book is on sale at La Savane des Esclaves and in many outlets in Martinique. You can also order it: lasavanedesesclaves@wanadoo.fr.
